Javon Young, A Creator On The Rise

THE JOURNEY
SPECIAL THANKS
During my senior year, I started making clothes for myself daily, thanks to my art teacher who supplied the fabrics, yarn, thread, and needles. This experience allowed me to fully express myself and grow as an artist and designer, culminating in winning the first-ever best-dressed award at our school's inaugural homecoming.
After high school, I explored various colleges intending to become an art teacher to share my love for art. However, my perspective shifted at UNCG when a staff member at the Degree Office encouraged me to pursue a degree in Consumer Apparel Retail after noticing my love for fashion art, guiding me to focus on my craft.
In 2022 after acquiring a sewing machine I worked hard on my craft and in 2023 I quickly discovered a demand for my work thus I began selling my creations, which showed me a path to what I wanted to do and inspired me to engage in various projects from 2023-2024 like painting jeans for promotion, filming, photography, and co-producing fashion shows with friends and clubs.

Onto 2025 where I have shown how strong my personal work is with selling out collection done by me alone and photoshoots done by me and my friends as well

The person who supplied me with the shirts to begin painting my art, giving me valuable advice, and supported my brand by commissioning jeans.
The person who shouted me out to various guest speakers, and field trips, setting up connections, giving valuable information on how to go forth with my brand, and commissioning jeans.
WHAT MOTIVATES ME
I take great joy in seeing people wear my art and in the evolution of my artistic skills with each piece I create. Each sale brings satisfaction, particularly when customers enjoy my work. Denim is essential to my art, inspiring 80% of my creations with its vivid colors, textures, and attributes—it's a canvas ready for creativity. Moreover, I strive to express human emotions through my art, which is evident in my designs through my Jeans, shirts, and photography.
IMPORTANT CLASSES TO MY DEVELOPMENT
This class helped show me the technical skills I would need to fully understand different sewing stitches, and hems, how to use an industrial machine, and how to create patterns and mock-ups.
This class paired with the lab helped showed me how a garment goes through construction from fabirc, market trends, consumer preferences and sustanibility can help with creating your garment.s
This class set me up for future job internships and helped me perfect my resume, get connected with various companies in my field, and help me figure out fully the route I want to go for plus prepare me for interviews, presentations, and the job world through my LinkedIn.
FEATURED WORKS
The first show I was a part of. I made one piece for this being a river monster where its face is spread all over its body as a way of it having to find its face or who they really are and the lamp the model holds held by a chain is the fire in its heart still burning.
Fashion show I co-produced stemming from the idea my friend gave me to do a second show with him for an event where our pieces would be on a runway. I worked harder than ever making pieces I've never made to show what can do and how much heights I can achieve through progression.
This year I did 5 Collections from 8 pieces all the way to 30 pieces per collection. Upcycling old clothes from thrift stores, secondhand shops, and friends. I created collection based on mental health and growing as a designer/person this year was big for my personal brand and craft as collection sold out and more ideas flow.
